Watermelon silver mottle virus (WSMoV)

Ring-like pattern on WSMoV infected fruit
Characteristic Symptoms:
 
Fruits of an infected plants have slightly raised ring-like pattern
 
Infected tomato plants usually become stunted.
 
Crops Affected
 
Solanaceous (tomato, pepper)
   
Cucurbits (watermelon)
   
Management and Control:
 
Use resistant/tolerant varieties, if available.
   
Remove infected plants as early as symptoms are observed to prevent/minimize spread.
   
Remove weeds that may serve as alternate hosts.
   
Control/minimize thrips population by using plastic mulch, insect traps and/or use of insecticides such as profenofos (e.g. Selecron) and acephate (e.g. Acetam, Compete).
