Characteristic Symptoms:
 

The side of melon fruits facing the sun appear to have patches with yellowish or whitish color.

   
The patches turn leathery and dry out and may become infected with secondary infections in the wounded tissue.
   
Conditions for Disease Development
 
Sunscad is prevalent during hot and dry weather condition.
   
It is most common on green fruits
   
Management and Control:
 
Cover exposed fruits with rice straws or shade plants.
   
Minimize pruning.
   
Control foliar diseases so as not to expose the fruits to the sun.
