Characteristic Symptoms: | |
The virus causes leaf curling and chlorosis in melon plants. | |
Severe infection causes plant stunting. | |
Transmission: | |
The virus is transmitted by a vector, Bemisia tabaci in a non-persistent manner. It is also transmitted by mechanical inoculation. | |
Management and Control: | |
Remove infected plants as soon as symptoms are observed.

Remove weeds that serve as alternate hosts. | |
Control whitefly population by using plastic mulch, insect traps and/or use of insecticides such as imidacloprid (e.g. Solomon®, Confido®r, Admire®, Provado Supra®), dimethoate (e.g. Perfekthion®), metamidophos (e.g. Matador®) and cartap hydrochloride (e.g. Padan®, Dimo®, Vegetox®).
