Causal Agent: 

Oomycete (Pseudoperonospora cubensis)

Characteristic Symptoms:
 

Small, angular and yellowish to pale green lesions that are demarcated by leaf veins are the typical symptoms of downy mildew.

   
Advanced lesions appear as brown necrotic lesions with mass of black spores on the underside of the leaves.
   
Conditions for Disease Development
 
Cool nights with long dew periods favors disease development.
   
Spores on infected melon leaves can be dispersed by wind.
   
Management and Control:
 
Use of resistant varieties, if available.
   
Maintain good field sanitation (e.g. remove and burn infected plants/plant parts as soon as initial symptoms are observed).
   
Spray with fungicides such as  metalaxyl+mancozeb (e.g. Ridomil®), dimethomorph+mancozeb (e.g. Acrobat®), propineb (e.g. Antracol®) or maneb(e.g. Maneb®).
